In the framework of the 42th National Congress of the Mexican Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (abbreviated AMCPER in Spanish) performed in Zacatecas in 2011, the permanent campaign “Safe Plastic Surgery” was launched. The AMCPER is a is a non-profit Civil Association, founded 62 years ago, which involves every Certificated Plastic Surgeon in Mexico, this campaign is addressed to the public in general but mainly to people that by different reasons, such as correcting physical defects or improving their appearance, feel themselves in the need of getting into diverse procedures offered by the scientific advances in the Plastic Surgery; also it is launched as a result of the alarming proliferation of “medical professionals” that without scruples and primarily without professional ethics, in complicity with hospitals, anesthesiologists, suppliers of implants and materials of doubtful quality, in rudimentary and unhealthy conditions and with the only intention of getting money, dare to practice plastic surgeries, completely devoid of academic preparedness and proper practices, thus emerging complications from their ineptness which are then incapable to resolve, putting at risk the integrity, physical and moral stability and even the life, of those whom put themselves in their hands, victims of the lack of necessary information and also attracted by "good prices" that these medicine charlatans offer them.

Plastic Surgeons certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Anyone who wishes to undergo a procedure of this nature should apply for the appropriate credentials that guarantees the authenticity of the certification obtained through the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. To be a certified plastic surgeon, the applicants must have completed 6 years of study to obtain the title of General Medicine, 3 years of subspecialty in Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgery, and have presented and passed the high level of difficulty examination that is applied by the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; having just achieved these requirements it is possible to practise this speciality, it is important to mention that the examination is based on the same judgment applied in the United States of America, Canada and Europe, it is for this reason that plastic surgery in Mexico has a worldwide recognition.

Plastic surgeons are graded in the Congress, which takes place every year nationally, whom must obtain 20 points, every 5 years they must have achieved 100 curricular points in their speciality or have another kind of scores if they have attended another type of courses to keep with appropriate update, in case of failure to accomplish the designated score by the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery the council does NOT grant the recertification, having to be examined once again by the council.
